The Micah Parsons Trade Is Objectively Hilarious On So Many Levels

After a very long and ugly contrat negogation that resulted in their star pass rusher requesting a trade earlier this month, the Dallas Cowboys finally did it. The Cowboys sent two-time All-Pro Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for two first-round picks and Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark.

And I’ve got to say, this blockbuster trade is objectively hilarious on so many levels.

I Already Had Low Expectations for Dallas Going into 2025:

First things first, this move doesn’t really change my outlook on the Cowboys this season. Going into the season, I was planning on picking the Cowboys to finish last in the NFC East, and that was assuming Micah Parsons would still be on the team.

Instead, Parsons is on his way to Wisconsin.

Sure, Kenny Clark is a good defensive tackle. But he’s not Micah Parsons when it comes to game-changing defensive impact, who is arguably the best defensive player in football. Unless the Cowboys flip those two first-round picks they got in return for another significant piece, I don’t see this trade shaking up their outlook going into this season. To me, this just confirms my beliefs that the New York Giants have passed the Cowboys within the division and they will be finishing last in the NFC East.

The Packers Finally Have Finally Changed & Aaron Rodgers Must be Pissed:

From Green Bay’s perspective, this is where the comedy kicks in. For years, Aaron Rodgers wanted the front office to make bold like this and since he left in 2023, they finally have done so.

For years, he wanted a first-round wide receiver and it never happened. Then this year, they drafted Matthew Golden. For years, he wanted the team to be aggressive in free agency, then in 2024, they went out and signed running back Josh Jacobs. And who can forget in 2018 when he wanted the team to go upgrade the defense and trade for star-pass rusher Khalil Mack who eventually ended up in the NFC North with the Chicago Bears.

Fast forward to now two years into the Jordan Love era, Green Bay seemingly has finally changed their ways and they made their boldest move of all by trading Parsons to get the defensive superstar they need to make a legitimate Super Bowl push.

So, does this make the Packers contenders? Honestly, yes. Spoiler alert for my updated predictions coming this week, but this move obviously really helps Green Bay’s chances of winning the NFC North and making a real playoff run.

My Message to Cowboys Fans:

Cowboys fans, I know this sucks in the moment. You've lost your best player, and you've sent him to a rival who you have had heated playoff battles with over the last decade. But I think there is one silver lining you can look to if you're looking for some hope.

Over the last few years, we’ve seen blockbuster trades for stars where teams have given away a ton of draft capital and then gone on to dish out huge contracts to players before they even play a snap for their new team blow up in teams’ faces before.

Look at the Cleveland Browns with Deshaun Watson and the Denver Broncos with Russell Wilson.

As a Seahawks fan—when Seattle dealt Russ to Denver, I was pissed at first. But looking back, it turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to the Seahawks. They got multiple high draft picks, cleared out cap space, and developed those players into stars without ever having to go into full rebuild mode. So while trading Parsons stings now, Cowboys fans shouldn’t lose all hope. This franchise has drafted well in recent years, and those two first-round picks could be huge building blocks for your team going forward.

Final Thoughts:

At the end of the day, I think the Cowboys made a mistake trading Parsons, especially to a conference rival. But I can’t stop laughing at how the Packers, who spent years ignoring Rodgers’ pleas, are suddenly aggressive now that he’s gone.

I can't wait to see what this season holds for both the Packers and Cowboys after this trade and obviously cannot wait for Parsons to make his return to Dallas in Week 4 on Sunday Night Football.
