The Spurs Stole My Whole Flow Last Night, Almost Bar for Bar

Let me start this post by saying I'm okay.

I survived. I'm fine. I went to work the next day. Nothing serious happened in the end, but after what happened last night, I figured it might be worth writing about.

As I was sitting down watching Game 4 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs, I was eating what was about as normal of a dinner as you can imagine for me. A baked potato, ground beef, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Then something happened that would pretty much set the tone for the rest of the night.

Apparently, I took a bite of potato that was a little too ambitious. The piece didn't go down properly and suddenly it was stuck in my throat.

I started choking.

Now, thankfully, I could still breathe and I could still talk, although both were becoming increasingly difficult. I was getting a bit lightheaded and knew something wasn't right almost immediately.

So I called for help.

It was pretty freaky.

The Heimlich maneuver had to be performed on me and, unfortunately, that still wasn't enough to get the food out. At that point, an ambulance had to be called because we weren't sure whether the piece of potato was eventually going to block my airway.

Looking back on it now, the scariest part is realizing how fortunate I was that I wasn't home alone.

If I had been by myself, there's a decent chance I wouldn't be sitting here writing this right now. At the very least, I probably would've panicked and had no idea what to do.

Thankfully, the doctors were eventually able to get the food out and everything turned out okay. But I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a pretty traumatic experience.

The funny thing is, somehow that wasn't even the biggest choke of the night.

Because while I was busy nearly choking on a potato, the San Antonio Spurs were busy blowing a 29-point lead midway through the third quarter of an NBA Finals game while trailing 2-1 in the series.

How?

Seriously, how?

I don't even know if words can properly describe how bad that collapse was.

The Knicks stormed all the way back and stole Game 4, putting themselves just one win away from an NBA championship. I'll probably have a lot more to say about the actual basketball side of things in the coming days, but for now, let's just say OG Anunoby has officially made himself a New York Knicks legend.

What a performance.

As for me, I learned a couple of lessons.

First, when people tell you to cut your food into bite-sized pieces, they're probably onto something.

Second, everyone should probably know how to perform the Heimlich maneuver. You never think you'll need it until suddenly you're the one needing it.

And finally, if you're a Knicks fan, apparently you have to be willing to put your life on the line for this team.

Thankfully, both the Knicks and I survived the night.

One of us just happened to do it in considerably more dramatic fashion.
