If Nobody Got Me, I Know Mike Macdonald Got Me

Man, isn't it just crazy how much something can change in the span of a day?

At the start of the day, I was thinking the Seattle Seahawks, my favourite team, get to start our championship defence tonight against the New England Patriots in a Super Bowl rematch, and I felt as if once again we were a very, very strong contender going into the season, bringing back most of the team that won last year.

Then, five snaps into the season, I'm thinking the season might be over because quarterback Sam Darnold goes out with an injury. He could barely walk, and it's apparently a hip injury, which has a wide range of outcomes. He could very well be back on the field next week, or he could be out for the season. We really don't know.

The team has said that it doesn't sound like it's going to be a fracture, so that's good news for now, but that really doesn't help us yet on a timetable. We don't know what the exact injury is and will probably find out tomorrow, but nevertheless, at least it's not a fracture, so that's good for now.

But yeah, after Darnold went out five snaps into the game, the Seahawks offence just could not move the ball. They went down 10-0 at one point, and I was somehow thinking throughout this time, not just that this game is over, but is the season over if Darnold can't come back? I was just all over the place. I was even thinking, is this going to be the worst Super Bowl defence in history if they don't have Darnold this year? Are we already trying to look at college football prospects?

I'm just having all these emotions while watching the first game of the year, and of course, then I realize the score is only 10-0 midway through the third quarter, and I'm like, "You know what… Mike Macdonald has these boys playing."

Specifically, that defensive performance was masterful by Seattle, and I shouldn't have doubted them because Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald is very well making his case to be the best coach in the NFL right now.

The Seahawks only allowed 178 passing yards to Drake Maye and forced him into three interceptions in the fourth quarter to help complete the comeback win. And yes, a lot of people are going to blame those turnovers on Maye, especially that last one, which was flat out unacceptable, but Coach Mike just has that dude's number, and it's getting ridiculous at this point.

But nevertheless, I don't even know what more to say; the Seahawks just had yet another dominant defensive performance, which us fans are kind of getting numb to as we start year three of the Macdonald era.

And while we're all still waiting to hear on what the Darnold update is, I have no doubt that whatever it is, Macdonald will get the most out of whichever players are on that field because this team loves playing for him and they're bought into his vision for this program.

And as a Seahawks fan, I haven't felt this confident in the organization in so long, which makes sense coming off a Super Bowl title. But seeing people on Twitter, even on social media, glazing your team and head coach because of how good they are is just hilarious.

So, somehow, some way, 1-0. The Hawks overcome a double-digit deficit and start the season off right.

Hopefully, the Darnold injury isn't as serious as I'm fearing. Hopefully, I'm expecting him to hopefully be back on the field by Week 4. Maybe just give him Weeks 2 and 3 to sit out, as you should win next week with Drew Lock, regardless, against the Cardinals. And then, against the Commanders, you can roll the dice. I would throw Lock out there again to just let Darnold get as healthy as possible.

But it doesn't matter because if nobody got me on any of my sports teams, I know Mike Macdonald and the Seahawks got me, because holy crap, what a team effort.

1-0. What a way to start the year.

Now, all the concern is now Darnold, but I'm confident in this group because I'm confident in this head coach.
