The Silcoff Selections are here for January 9th, 2026. With all the action in sports tonight, here are some of my favourite plays across sports today.

NBA:

New Orleans Pelicans Moneyline (-140) @ Washington Wizards

It might not be the best game on the schedule, but this is a spot I like. New Orleans has dominated this matchup in recent meetings winning seven of the last 10 games, and Washington is shorthanded after moving multiple players in the Trae Young deal and not having a full lineup. Even with some absences on the Pelicans’ side, Zion Williamson is the best player on the floor, so I’ll take New Orleans to win on the road.

Philadelphia 76ers Moneyline (-155) @ Orlando Magic

We've been on Orlando a lot lately, and frankly, they haven’t treated us well, so I’m comfortable fading them here. Philadelphia has won six of its last ten games against Orlando and has covered seven of the last ten meetings against the Magic. With Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and VJ Edgecombe starting to click and stay healthy, and Orlando still without Franz Wagner, Philly has been the more consistent team. I’ll take the 76ers on the moneyline.

NHL:

Los Angeles Kings Moneyline (-125) @ Winnipeg Jets

Winnipeg is coming off a brutal loss last night after blowing a third-period lead to Edmonton with Connor Hellebuyck in net, and they’ve now dropped 11 straight games. Los Angeles, on the other hand, is starting to find its rhythm and has won seven of the last ten meetings in this matchup. With Darcy Kuemper expected to start in goal and the Jets continuing to spiral, I’ll take the Kings on the moneyline as the better team right now.
